PGA Tour and moved to LIV Golf, McKinsey Hughes

U.S. media outlets such as Golf Digest and Golf Dotcom introduced on the 13th (Korea time) that Hughes, who was 51st in FedEx Cup points, was ranked 50th in the absence of this year's Masters winner and four PGA Tour wins, and won all of the signature tournaments with a total prize money of $20 million next season.

Only two early signature competitions (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Genesis Invitational) are eligible for the 10th place in the points ranking from 51st to 60th place, and Hughes deserves to laugh quietly and welcome the luck that occurred when the 18th place was missing. Moreover, four of the signature competitions guarantee big prize money as only a small number of less than 80 people participate and there is no cutoff.

The change came as the PGA Tour, which was shocked by Lam's transfer, canceled Lam's point record last season. Smiley rose from 61st place in FedEx points to 60th place, securing a berth to participate in two signature competitions. Yuan, ranked 126th in FedEx Cup points, was scheduled to participate in the PGA Tour Qualifying School Final, which will open on July 14, but moved up one notch to 125th to secure a berth to participate in next year's PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour announced that the final qualification for participation will be decided on Dec. 31, hinting at the possibility that other players could further increase their rankings if they leave for Liv Golf. However, middle and lower ranking players who are protesting the change of the PGA Tour's signature tournament-centered season system, which will start from next year, have also begun to raise their voices.

Twenty-one players, including Korean-American James Han, recently sent a letter through their lawyer raising the issue of the PGA Tour's benefits being concentrated only on a small number of top players. They are asking for re-discussion and transparent disclosure on how FedEx Cup points are calculated, the number of signings, the player impact (PIP) program, the PGA Tour policy committee, and player directors.

Then, the PGA Tour's management board, composed of major players such as Tiger Woods, immediately notified the players and said, "We are reviewing petitions for the FedEx Cup point distribution method." The signature competition, in which the top 50 players participate, gives 700 points to the winner of the FedEx Cup, while the winner of the general competition, in which more players participate, receives 500 points.

Ranto Griffin, one of the disgruntled players, said in a recent interview with Golf Week, "It's okay that they won a big prize in the signature competition, but the distribution of points is a problem," adding, "It's unfair that the fifth-place player in the general competition and the third-place player in the signature competition receive the same points."

Attorney Jacob Buchdal, who represents 21 players, including Masters winners Danny Willett (England), Scott Piercy and Chez Libby (USA), as well as James Hahn and Griffin, argues that "the change of tour schedule that makes only the top rankers wealthy is a threatening move for players and many players are alienated from committee decisions."

Buhdall sent a letter to the PGA Tour Steering Committee stating the names of 21 players

Buhdahl's letter to the PGA Tour's steering committee asks general players to disclose the details of the PGA Tour's negotiations with the Strategic Sports Group (SSG) and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which have recently been discussed. The establishment of a new for-profit corporation between the PGA Tour and the PIF, which will be completed by this year, is also feared to exclude players in the middle and lower ranks.

Middle and low ranking players criticize that Tiger Woods and the steering committee, which includes directors Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth, Webb Simpson, Charlie Hoffman and Peter Malnatti, have only acted richly, not as members of the tour. This is why they strongly demanded that the details of all negotiations be fully disclosed in Buchdal's letter.

James Hahn, who has never ranked within the top 50 in the world rankings, is most sensitive to such change, saying that the PGA Tour is gradually becoming more like Liv Golf. "I am worried about what will happen to the PGA Tour without the middle class," he asks himself. "How much would you be satisfied with spending if you were to spend money for top players?" However, in a capitalist society, is there such a thing as being satisfied with money?
