However, the number of visitors dropped significantly after Typhoon Rainbow on Sunday, bringing the total number of visitors between Oct. 1 and Oct. 4 to just 1.9 percent compared to 2014.

China, the world's largest gambling hub, is now facing a serious threat from a drop in visitors to mainland China, and casino facilities are very concerned about their future. The Chinese government has also indicated that it is closely monitoring the revenue the Macau casino industry makes and may take steps to revive the struggling casino industry.

Li Gang, head of the Chinese government's regional liaison office, said Beijing would soon come up with proposals on how to improve Macau's casino industry. There have been signs of what those changes might be, but game analysts believe Beijing is likely to ease visa restrictions to get mainland Chinese to visit Macau more often.
