Garcia seizes first chance to win LIV Golf ahead of Masters

Spain's Sergio Garcia took the lead by two shots on the second day of the LIV Golf Miami Tournament (total prize money of $25 million).

Garcia tied for second with a total of 9-under 135 on the second day of the tournament held at Trump National Doral (par 72, 7701 yards) in Miami, Florida, on the 7th (Korea time), reducing four strokes with six birdies and two bogeys. Taylor Gooch, Matt Wolf (USA), Tyrell Hatton (England), and Dean Bermister (Australia) led by two strokes.

Garcia, who tied for the lead with five birdies and no bogey in the first round the previous day, will now seek his first LIV Golf victory ahead of the Masters. Garcia, who has 11 PGA Tour wins, beat Justin Rose of England in extra time to win the 2017 Masters.

After moving to LIV Golf, Garcia lost to his second playoff game and failed to secure his first win. Recently, he lost to his close friend Joaquin Niemann of Chile at the Mayakova game of LIV Golf, the opening game of this season.

As the tournament takes place a week before the Masters, attention is focusing on the performance of the contenders. However, not many players are in good condition. Cameron Smith of Australia, the 2022 Open champion, withdrew after finishing the first round with a 3-over 75.

Bubba Watson (U.S.), a two-time green jacket winner, struggled with a 4-over 76 to tie for 28th with an even-par 144 overall. Major Hunter Brooks Koepka (U.S.) also shot a 4-over 76 to tie for 35th with a 2-over overall.

Returning to the field for the first time in 12 years, Korean-American Anthony Kim was sluggish at 9-over 81 and tied for 53rd with a 13-over-par 157 overall. Anthony Kim made two birdies on the day, but made nine bogeys and one double bogey.
