Asian Cup group stage schedule revealed

The Asian Football Confederation announced on the 21st, "The 2023 Qatar Asian Cup will start with a match between defending champions Qatar and Lebanon at Lusail Stadium in Qatar on January 12 next year." It will then be held until the final match on February 10 at Rusail Stadium.

In the 2023 Asian Cup, 24 teams are divided into six groups, and three games are played every day during the group stage. Al-Jasim, CEO of Qatar 2023 Organizing Committee for the AFC Asian Cup, said, "We will see an exciting match played by Asia's largest teams. Our stadium will rejuvenate with passion and excitement. This is because spectators from all over the continent (Asia) will head to Qatar for the Asian Cup," he said.

"I'm very happy to host a prestigious tournament for the third time, and I'm sure it will be the best tournament so far," he stressed. South Korea is in Group E with Jordan, Malaysia, and Bahrain.

South Korea will play its first group match against Bahrain at Jasim bin Hamad Stadium on January 15 next year. He will then play his second group match against Jordan at Al Tumama Stadium on January 20 and play his last group match against Malaysia at Al Zanup Stadium on January 25.

Founded in 1956, the Asian Cup is Asia's most prestigious national competition held every four years. After winning the first tournament in 1956 and the second tournament in 1960, Korea only finished second four times and never became a champion.

The Asian Cup was scheduled to be held in China in June, but China returned its right to host it in May last year due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection. Not only South Korea but also Japan and Australia expressed their intention to host the event, but Qatar was decided as the venue.
