Son Ho-young, the final shot

The ninth-ranked Lotte Giants, whose nickname "Bomde" was overshadowed, blocked the leading Hanwha Eagles' eight-game winning streak.

At an away game of the 2024 KBO League held at Hanwha Life Insurance Eagles Park in Daejeon on Tuesday, Lotte won the game 1-0. Lotte, which reported its second win this season by recovering from two consecutive losses, maintained its ninth place with two wins and six losses. It is 0.5 game behind the 10th-ranked Suwon KT Wiz (2 wins and seven losses).

Hanwha, which failed to garner a single point in its two opportunities to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning, was put on hold after winning seven consecutive games after losing the opening game. It maintained its lead with seven wins and two losses. It is 0.5 game gap with the second-ranked NC Dinos (6 wins and two losses).

Lotte's Na Kyun-an gave no runs with 10 strikeouts in six innings, and Hanwha's Riccardo Sanchez gave no runs with eight strikeouts in five and two thirds of innings, leading to a 0 run. The crack occurred in the top of the eighth inning. When Lotte's Victor Reyes got on base with an infield single towards the shortstop after one out, pinch-runner Hwang Seong-bin came out and stole base. When Hanwha's relief pitcher Park Sang-won hit a fork ball to the catcher's side when Noh Jin-hyuk was batting with one out and runners on the first and second bases, Hwang immediately jumped to the third base. The ball that Hanwha catcher Lee Jae-won immediately threw was thrown to the third base and Hwang was found safe after video review. With two outs and runners on the first and third bases, Sohn Ho-young hit a timely hit, bringing Hwang home.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Hanwha saved the spark of an eight-game winning streak by getting a walk from Ha Joo-seok against Lotte closer Kim Won-joong, and pinch hitter Choi In-ho hit a double to end the game in an instant. Lotte manager Kim Tae-hyung deliberately walked Lee Jae-won and chose the full base operation, which was right. Moon Hyun-bin hit a grounder to the second base, Lotte second baseman Choi Hang immediately threw it home to catch third baseman Lee Do-yoon, who had been a pinch runner instead of Ha Joo-seok, and catcher Information-geun threw the ball to first base to get Moon Hyun-bin out.

Hanwha's opportunities continued. Lotte had another chance to load the bases with two outs by walking even Yonatan Faraza. However, Chae Eun-seong struck out swinging on Kim Won-joong's fork ball, stopping his winning streak. Taking the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning, Lotte rookie Jeon Mir, who struck out Peraza and grounded Chae with runners on the first and second bases with one out, won his debut game. Hanwha Han Seung-hyuk, who gave up the score in the eighth inning, lost the game.
