Sharif Abdul-Rahim, chairman of NBA G League Ignite, officially announced on the 22nd (Korea Standard Time) that G League Ignite will be disbanded after this season.

Founded in April 2020, the G League Ignite was a G League team owned and operated by the NBA and was an option for high school prospects to make money competing with G League players instead of going to college.

However, in June 2021, when the NCAA introduced its NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) policy, allowing players to make money from their personal branding, prospective players no longer had to head to the G League Ignite for money. It also had a hard time performing well, with only two wins and 28 losses this season.

G League Ignite, which disappeared into history after four years, has advanced 10 players to the NBA stage since the 2021 NBA Draft.

The highest-ranking player is Jaren Green, who was selected by Houston as the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Green, who chose G League Ignite despite receiving love calls from the NCAA's leading teams such as Kentucky, UCLA, and Villanova University, is growing step by step with an average of 19.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists this season.

Golden State's Jonathan Kuminga, the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, also averaged 16.4 points and 4.7 rebounds this season, making him a promising starting member of the team that matches Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

In addition, Scoot Henderson, who joined Portland with the third overall pick of the 2023 NBA draft, and Dyson Daniels of New Orleans, the eighth overall pick of the 2022 draft, are from the G League Ignite and are shining the NBA.

Among the last players who will challenge the NBA stage as a former G League Ignite in the upcoming 2024 NBA draft, tall forward Matas Buzelis from Lithuania and wingman Ron Holland, who was once also mentioned as a first-pick candidate, are likely to be selected as a rotary pick.
