Women's Championship at this Season's World Cup

She also won the women's overall World Cup title this season
"It was hard, but I'm satisfied with winning the 1st place overall"

Kim Ki-li (Seongnam City Hall), the next-generation ace in the Korean women's short track speed skating, has won her first gold medal in the world championship. Kim Ki-li also won the overall title for the women's team at this season's World Cup.

Kim Kee-li was the first to cross the finish line in the women's 1,500m final of the 2024 International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track World Championships at Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on the 16th.

Kim started to take the lead from the middle of the match, and engaged in fierce battle with Kristen Santos-Greese World of the U.S. and Harner Desgott of the Netherlands. She fell to third place with four laps to go, and made the audience sweat, and then she penetrated into the in-course to overtake the two players who were ahead of her in the final lap, and accelerated to break the finish line first.

As a result, Kim was able to dispel regret that she failed to win any medals at the World Championships held on her home turf last year. With this gold medal, she won seven individual gold medals and three silver medals in the first to sixth ISU Short Track World Cup competitions in the 2023-24 season, winning the overall women's championship.

"It's my first world championship gold medal," Kim Kee-li said shortly after the game, adding, "It feels different from winning the World Cup." "It was actually very difficult to keep the No. 1 overall position until the end of this season's World Cup series, but I'm satisfied that I finished first until the end."

Despite Park Ji-won and Hwang Dae-heon's participation, the men's 1,500m medal hunt failed

On the other hand, the men's 1,500m final failed to win a medal despite the participation of Park Ji-won (Seoul City Hall) and Hwang Dae-heon (Gangwon Provincial Office).

Hwang Dae-heon, who was passing by the in-course with three laps left, collided with Park Ji-won, who was running in the lead. Park Ji-won later increased his speed to the maximum, but only ranked sixth. Hwang Dae-heon finished the race in first place, but was disqualified for "late overtaking at the end of the straight line" due to a penalty.

Hwang Dae-heon was also warned in October last year for committing a foul that pushed Park Ji-won from behind in the final of the 1,000m second race of the first World Cup tournament in the 2023-24 season. Hwang Dae-heon said, "I apologized right away because (Park) Ji-won felt sorry for me," adding, "I will try to show a little better performance in the remaining events."
