Manchester City pursues contract renewal with ‘monster’ Haaland

Jack Gohan of Britain's Daily Mail said on the 6th (Korean time), "Man City is pushing for a contract extension for Haaland, who has shown record-breaking performances, even though there are still four years left on his contract. The two sides are expected to come to an agreement within a few months. “It is expected,” the report said.

He added, "Man City will begin negotiations on a new contract in the coming months and will look to tie Haaland to the club further. Haaland currently has about four years left on his contract, but there is a desire to extend it for at least one more season." .

He continued: “The new terms are expected to see wages of £400,000 per week plus bonuses. This development would be a major blow to Real Madrid. A potential release clause will be discussed as an agreement is sought. "There were two release clauses in Haaland's first contract, one of which depended on Pep Guardiola's future as manage

Haaland moved from Dortmund to Manchester City last summer. With 86 goals and 23 assists in 89 games for Dortmund alone, he was thought to require an astronomical transfer fee of just 60 million euros (approximately 85 billion won). This was due to Holland’s buyout. The contract period signed was five years until the summer of 2027, and the reported weekly salary was 375,000 pounds (approximately 615.75 million won).

Holland showed fantastic scoring ability, living up to his nickname ‘monster striker’. 36 goals in 35 games in the 2022-23 Premier League (PL), 12 goals in 11 games in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), 3 goals in 4 games in the English FA Cup, and 1 goal in 2 games in the English Football League Cup (EFL Cup). A total of 52 points were scored. Thanks to Holland's performance, Manchester City achieved a treble of PL, UCL, and FA Cup. Although he has slightly underperformed his finishing ability this season, he still leaves a strong impression with 8 goals in 11 official matches. He is considered by far the best striker in Europe.

In this situation, Man City is pushing for a contract renewal. Haaland has been repeatedly linked with Real. Real have failed to find a replacement for Karim Benzema and are relying on 33-year-old Joselo this season. It is easy to predict that attempts will be made to recruit Holland in the future transfer market. Accordingly, Man City is trying to move to keep Holland.
