The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has added 12 more names to its list of illegal gambling websites that are now blocked in the country.

Blocking websites is a measure covered under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 and ACMA enforces this step by instructing Australian internet service providers to prevent access to certain domains. The first blocking request was made in November of 2019 and since then, a total of 926 websites and affiliates that are considered illegal in the country have been blocked. Additionally, over 220 companies have withdrawn from the Australian market due to being considered in breach of local regulations.

The latest names to be included on the blocked list include:

Slots Palace
Nomini
Casinia
SG Casino
Fez Bet
Buran Casino
Spin Better
Golden Bet
Clash.gg

Website blocking is only one of a range of measures the government down under can take to prevent illegal gambling, and it is commonly implemented where a company or service is found to be providing prohibited interactive gambling services to customers in Australia, or even just found to be publishing adverts for such services.

The ACMA is keen to point out that illegal services are unlikely to have important consumer protection mechanisms in place, and that local regulations cannot help players in case of a dispute or problem.
