Companies show interest in Dutch online gambling licences

The Dutch gambling authority Kansspelautoriteit said 79 companies had indicated they were interested in online gambling licenses to operate in the local market. Registration for Dutch gambling licenses began on June 5.

The KSA said companies must indicate they are interested in licensing by Friday, June 21, and must obtain permission by filling out a form. This is part of the licensing process KSA is currently establishing in contact with the new Remote Gambling Act.

The current regulation, adopted on Feb. 19, 2019, stipulates that online gambling has become legal, but you cannot apply for a license to provide a game of chance. The new law will change this. The Ministry of Justice is currently making this law a so-called subregulation. Upon completion of the process, the gambling regulator can set the conditions for the permit.

If the Netherlands processes permit applications from July 1, 2020, the online gambling market is likely to be fully operational by the first day of 2021, said Renee Jansen, the regulator's chairman.

The KSA said it is important to know how much support we can expect in the future for the licensing process to go smoothly. "Everyone will soon benefit from a smooth process. If we know how much support we can expect, we can organize the process accordingly. That's in our interest, but also in the interest of the applicants," Jansen said.
