Two guys in gray, three-piece suits and the specter of death, or at least a really severe abrasion, everywhere.
Couldn't Penn & Teller have cut a ribbon like everyone else? Well, no. True to form, Penn & Teller officially made the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino their home with another in an unbroken chain of spectacularly strange illusions. Las Vegas' most unlikely entertainers magically appeared amid 25 tons of quarters, the amount of the duo's signing bonus on their newly-signed, two-year agreement with the Rio. "Not only have we once again cheated death in a spectacular way," said Penn, "we also don't have to worry ever again about getting change for the Laundromat!" Penn & Teller, dubbed "evil geniuses" by David Letterman, have made the Rio and Las Vegas their exclusive entertainment home after two decades of nationwide, sold-out tours, stops on Broadway, guest lectures at MIT and three best-selling books. With a terminal aversion to show business labels, Penn & Teller simply say they are "a couple of eccentric guys who have learned how to do a few cool things." Those "things" range from catching bullets in their teeth, putting a bunny through a wood chipper, turning a girl into a mind-reading gorilla and a patriotic flag burning. They don't mind showing audiences how some tricks are done, which is why their show has been referred to as "magic for people who hate magic." Penn & Teller have won two Emmys, an International Golden Rose, and much critical praise. "Two of the funniest people alive," according to Entertainment Weekly. Penn & Teller survived receiving their 25-ton signing bonus and can be seen nightly, except Tuesdays, at 8:30 p.m. in the Rio's Samba Theatre. Tickets are priced at $65.00 plus tax at the Rio Box Office (888.746.7784). A wholly-owned subsidiary of Harrah's Entertainment, Inc., the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino is a recognized leader and innovator in the entertainment and hospitality industry. The Rio's famous neon-lit towers feature more than 2,500 suites, 120,000 square feet of gaming space and award-winning dining and entertainment. |
