Spraying water

An unusual comfort scene at the African Cup of Nations is drawing attention.

Sports Bible, a sports media outlet, said on social media on the 4th, "Coach Marley Erique Shell had to cool down with a bottle of water after losing against Ivory Coast."

Marley faced Ivory Coast in the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations at Stadi de Buake, located in Bouquet, Ivory Coast, on the 4th.

From the beginning of the game, Mali had a good chance. In the 16th minute of the first half, Ivory Coast's Odilong Kosunu was given a yellow card and allowed a penalty for fouling his opponent in the penalty box.

It was a golden opportunity for Mali to score the first goal, but it failed. Adama Traore, who played as a kicker, kicked the ball with confidence, but Yahia Fofana, Ivory Coast, blocked it.

Just before the end of the first half, a situation in Mali's favor was created. In the 44th minute of the first half, Côte d'Ivoire Kosunu received a yellow card while blocking Mali's attack. Cossunu, who had already been warned, was sent off due to accumulation of warnings.

Mali was the first team to score the goal. Nene Dorjele's mid-range shot in the 26th minute of the second half penetrated the Ivory Coast goal as it was. As Mali gained a numerical advantage, it seemed that the team would advance to the semifinals.

At the end of the game, Ivory Coast woke up. In the 45th minute of the second half, a mixed situation occurred in the Mali penalty box, and Cote d'Ivoire Simone Adingra scored the equalizer with a focused shot.

Eventually, the match ended in extra time. The smiling team was Ivory Coast. Umar Diakite scored the winning goal when he connected Seco Popanya's shot with a heel kick in the second minute of extra time in the second half of extra time. Diakite could not stand the joy of scoring and took off his uniform, and was sent off due to accumulation of warnings.

Two more were Mali, but there was not enough time to turn the game around. Thus, the match ended with Ivory Coast's victory.

"It's hard to accept. We were able to play a great game. In the last few minutes, we broke down. It's sad that our players are talented and deserve more," coach Marley Erique Shell said after the match.

"I think there are a lot of teams that can't do what they're doing. I asked the players to play to win. We played well," Shell said.

An unusual comfort scene drew attention. Coach Shell was crouching down and covering his face after the game. He felt disappointed at the upset loss. Then, someone who appeared to be Marley's coach sprayed water around his head and neck.

What's interesting is that Shell didn't respond at all. He touched his face while being doused with water, and no one who was spraying water said anything to continue his action. The reason for spraying water is not yet known.
