Technical support issues
The reason for the decision to stay at Tottenham Hotspur this winter has been revealed.
British media "Team Talk" reported on the 2nd, "Pierre Emil Hoivier (28) did not want to move to Lyon, a relegation zone, because he considers himself a Champions League-class player."
Hoivier left Southampton in 2020 and joined Tottenham. His extensive experience in Bayern Munich, Schalke and Southampton was expected to be a valuable asset for Tottenham.
The recruiting effect was satisfactory. Hoivier quickly became a part of Tottenham Hotspur. He also gave stability to Tottenham's midfield through his brisk activities and daredevil movements.
He performed well enough last season as well. He played in 44 games throughout all competitions. He was evaluated as one of the few Tottenham players who performed their part by scoring five goals and seven assists.
Things were quite different this season. Tottenham manager Enze Postecoglou preferred Yves Bissouma and Papé Sarr. Hoivier's position had to be drastically reduced.
Rumors have it that he will move to another team. Hoivier reportedly wants to leave for a team that can secure more time to play at Euro 2024.
Many teams wanted Hoivier. Since last summer, clubs such as Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Napoli have constantly sounded out the possibility of signing Hoivier.
Juventus is the most aggressive team. Juventus general manager Cristiano Giuntoli was also seen visiting the 11th round of the league between Tottenham and Chelsea to observe Hoivier in person.
Lyon also jumped into the competition in the transfer market this winter. Lyon wanted to reshuffle the midfield by recruiting Nemanja Matic (35) and Hoivierre.
Hoivier's choice was to stay. According to the report, Hoivier said in an interview, "I am confident that I can be of help to Tottenham. I want to play in every game. This is no secret. This is ambition."
"All players have ambitions. The important thing is to maintain ambitions for the team. I am here to try, help the team, and always improve at Tottenham. This is also my goal," he said.
