'184 A-Matches' Egyptian legend criticizes 'Salah returning to Liverpool'

Egyptian legend Ahmed Hasan criticized Mohammed Salah.

British media Mirror reported on the 23rd that Mohammed Salah has decided to leave the Egyptian camp and return to Liverpool for treatment of his hamstring injury. The decision was criticized by Egyptian legend Ahmed Hasan.

Salah started against Ghana in the second Group B match of the 2023 African Cup of Nations at Felix Uppuebuani Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on the 19th.

In the extra time of the first half, an unfortunate scene came out. Salah suddenly stopped and collapsed while running. Immediately, medical staff were deployed to check his condition. However, it was difficult to run more.

Salah was seen smiling as he passed through the common coverage area. There seemed to be no big problem walking. "I hope it's not a big problem. I don't know because it's too early. I don't think it's dangerous, but we have to watch him recover," Egypt's coach Louis Vittoria said.

However, things were not as good as expected. Eventually, Salah returned to his team Liverpool for treatment. He said that he would return to the national team if his injury improves and Egypt advances to the semifinals of the Nations Cup.

Ahmed Hassan, the Egyptian legend and the most participant in Egypt's A-match in history, criticized this. He scored 23 goals in 184 A-match games for Egypt. He won four Nations Cups and was named MVP in 2006 and 2010.

Hasan began by saying, "I have always supported Salah. I was very satisfied with his presence as the captain of the Egyptian national team."

Hasan complained about Salah's return to the team. He claimed, "There was nothing wrong with Salah's words. Turns out Salah was making plans to leave the Egypt national team."

Hassan emphasized the captain's sense of responsibility. "Can a player leave the national team's camp and then come back? We could even bring in someone from Liverpool's medical staff during the tournament. Again, he is the captain. Even if you have only one leg to stand on, you have to stay with the team no matter what."

"Salah himself said, 'It's the Egyptian national team, not Salah's,' which is true. We trust the players there and they have to fight for the championship," he added.

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said, "No matter how long Salah is absent, it is natural to rehabilitate with Liverpool and the club's players."
