Pennsylvania casino applies for table games

Rivers Casino announced today it has filed a petition for authorization to operate 86 table games. The petition arrived today at the Pennsylvania State Gaming Board for review and consideration.

If table games are authorized, Rivers intends to hire an additional 309 full-time and 149 part-time employees, representing a 458 net gain in workforce at Rivers Casino. Approximately 350 jobs are dealer positions, with the balance representing managers, supervisors and other support staff. Existing Rivers Casino employees may apply for table positions.

To date, 1,061 full- and part-time workers comprise Rivers' workforce. Approximately 89 percent are from the Pittsburgh area, 24 percent are minority and 45 percent are women.

In its petition, Rivers Casino reiterated its commitment to promoting diversity in its workforce along with intentions to continue hiring candidates from the local area neighborhoods, City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny and surrounding counties. Among Rivers' recruitment partners are Northside Leadership Conference, Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, Career Development Center and Pennsylvania CareerLink.

Rivers Casino held a career fair on March 8 and 9, and screened more than 1,800 individuals interested in attending dealer school in April. Planning for additional recruitment initiatives is underway.

"We're looking for the very best candidates to join the Rivers Casino team," said Todd Moyer, general manager of Rivers Casino. "Positive, energetic personalities and people with a strong sense of customer service are top prospects. We'll teach the dealer skills."

Rivers' Big Game Changer: Tables

Rivers Casino's petition seeks authorization for 86 tables, a combination of poker, blackjack, craps, roulette, three-card poker, mini-baccarat, Pai Gow Poker, Texas Hold 'em Bonus and Big Six.

The current gaming floor will be redesigned to accommodate the integration of the tables, including the construction of a dedicated poker room.

"We're thrilled to officially begin the process of bringing the excitement and variety of table games to Rivers," said Moyer. "A full complement of gaming options will soon be found on Pittsburgh's North Shore."

If table games are authorized at Rivers Casino, significant economic benefits will be realized by the Commonwealth, the City of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania residents, including direct and indirect job creation, increased tax revenue for both Pittsburgh and the Commonwealth, and the resulting reduction of taxes on the Commonwealth's citizens.
