Atlantic City Casino, which went out of business two years ago, reopens as a hotel.
Bart Blatstein, a developer in Philadelphia, said Showboat will reopen to guests Friday with 852 hotel rooms and suites. The building will retain the name Showboat but will no longer offer casino games. The reopening comes as unionized workers in the Trump Taj Mahal, right next door, enter their second week of strike action. Unionized workers in Area 54 continue to picket the casino around the clock. Showboat was one of four casinos that closed in the city in 2014 fighting competition from neighboring states. After a disastrous sale to Stockton University and an unsuccessful effort to overturn it to another casino owner, Blatstein purchased the property in January. |
