“I was the one who made the biggest mistake by creating a scene that could be misleading.”

NC Dinos coach Kang In-kwon said that starting pitcher Eric Peddy of the last game (first game on the 30th) ahead of the second game of the playoffs (3 wins out of 5) against KT Wiz in the '2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO Postseason' to be held at Suwon KT Wiz Park on the 31st. We talked about the scene where referee Lee Min-ho ran out to stop an argument.

The situation was like this. After one out in the bottom of the 5th inning, Peddie faced off with Moon Sang-cheol for a full count. He threw a curveball on the 7th pitch, but the umpire ruled it was a ball. However, Fedi had different thoughts and approached the referee with an aggressive gesture.

The situation was so close that even his teammate, infielder Park Min-woo, ran out to stop Peddie. At that moment, NC coach Kang In-kwon rushed out of the dugout and ran towards the referee with all his might to prevent the two from colliding. Afterwards, pitching coach Soo-kyung Kim visited Peddie and calmed him down.

However, this scene could be problematic. According to KBO regulations, managers, coaches, and other coaching staff cannot visit the mound twice in one inning.

Coach Kang visited the mound for the first time, and then Coach Kim for the second time, and KT coach Lee Kang-cheol continued to appeal whether Peddie should be replaced. If this appeal had been accepted, Peddie, who was fighting well, would have had to go down. It almost came as a big bad news for NC, which was leading 8-1.

Fortunately for NC, this rule did not apply. The KBO explained, “We judged that it was not a visit to the mound under the speed-up regulations, but rather an approach to the umpire.” Accordingly, Peddie continued to pitch well, leading the team to a 9-5 victory with a final performance of 6 innings, 3 hits (1 home run), 1 walk, 12 strikeouts, and 1 run.
