Sevilla of Spain's professional soccer Primera Liga has selected Kike Sanchez Flores (58, Spain), a candidate for the head coach of the Korean national soccer team five years ago, as its new head coach.
Sevilla announced on its website that it had "signed Flores until 2025." Sevilla replaced Uruguayan coach Diego Alonso (48) due to poor performance on the 16th, and immediately chose Flores as its next head coach. When Alonso, who took the helm in October, had a poor performance of two wins, five draws and seven losses since taking office, Sevilla boldly chose to replace the head coach and handed over the baton to Flores. From Spain, Flores played active roles in Valencia, Real Madrid, and Real Zaragoza (Spain), and after retirement, he led various teams such as Getafe, Atletico Madrid (Spain), Benfica (Portugal), Al-Ahli, Al-Aine (United Arab Emirates), Watford (England), and Shanghai Shenhua (China), starting with Real Madrid youth team coach in 2001. Flores led the UEFA Europa League in the 2009-2010 season when he was the head coach of Atletico Madrid, and he also won the UEFA Super Cup the following year. In 2018, he negotiated with the Korea Football Association as a candidate for the head coach of the Korean national soccer team and made his name known to domestic fans. |
