The Pohang Steelers, a professional soccer team, appointed Park

Pohang announced on Sunday morning that it signed a two-year contract with Park. Park, who was appointed as the 13th head coach of Pohang, debuted in Pohang in 1991 and was a "one-club man" who only wore Pohang uniforms until 2001. "Pohang is such a meaningful place for me that I've never forgotten about Pohang since I first joined the club," Park said. "It's an honor and pleasure to be a coach of such a team. I will do my best to show you Pohang soccer."

Park played in Pohang for nine seasons excluding his mandatory military service, and played in 261 K-League games, scoring 46 points and 37 assists. Notably, he served as Pohang's "captain" from 1998 to 2000. While Park was playing, Pohang won one K-League championship, one Korea Football Association (FA) Cup championship, and two Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League championships.

Park started as a coach in Pohang in 2005, helped Pohang win the K-League title in 2007, and served as the national soccer team coach from 2008 to 2011. He also led the team to the K-League title as the head coach of FC Seoul in 2012, and promoted it to the top division after taking charge of China's second division, Yanbian, in 2015. Park has served as the technical chairman of the Korea Professional Football League since 2020
