“Bonus Game”, is one step closer to promotion

Busan I-Park went back and forth between hell and heaven in 10 days.

Busan won 2-1 against Suwon FC in the first leg of the Hana 1Q K-League Promotion Playoffs (PO) held at Busan Asiad Main Stadium on the 6th. If they win the first game, they have an 85.7% chance of becoming the final winner.

A change in atmosphere was desperately needed. In the final game of K-League 2, Busan allowed an equalizing goal to Chungbuk Cheongju FC in extra time in the second half, giving up a 'come-from-behind victory' to Gimcheon Sangmu. We were looking forward to direct promotion by confirming the win, but we shed tears of vain as we were unable to maintain our one-goal lead.

At the time, Busan coach Park Jin-seop expressed his bitterness by saying, “Heaven was not on our side.”

But this day was different. Heaven helped Busan. Busan was dragged by Jang Jae-woong's first goal in the 42nd minute of the first half, but Lamas scored a penalty kick taken by Lee Seung-gi in the 39th minute of the second half to level the score at 1-1. Suwon FC was also 'outnumbered' due to Lee Seung-woo's accumulated warnings and sending off.

Eight minutes of extra time were given, and Busan achieved a dramatic victory when Kim Jung-hwan gave the team another penalty kick and Lamas hit the net. The ‘tragedy’ of the extra time against Cheongju was transformed into ‘hope’ within a week.

As if by a twist of fate, a hailstorm suddenly poured down after scoring the equalizer. It was as if a message had been sent: ‘The sky has not abandoned Busan.’ Lee Seung-gi said, “As hail was falling, I thought, ‘We are going to win.’ “It felt like a scene from when the game ended in style.”

Director Park said, “Luck is also the result of hard work. I don't know if I'll be lucky again, but I have to do my best on the pitch. “I believe that if you work hard, victory will follow,” he said.

Busan will play the second game at Suwon Stadium, Suwon FC's home stadium, at 2 p.m. on the 9th. On the 7th, I boarded a bus to Suwon. Coach Park hoped, “I hope we can show the confidence we gained from the first game in the second game as well.”

On the same day, the first leg of the relegation PO between Gangwon FC, ranked 10th in K League 1, and Gimpo FC, who passed the K League 2 semi-PO, ended in a 0-0 draw. We looked into each other's gaps, but there was no gain. The second game will be held at 2 p.m. on the 9th at Gangneung Stadium, Gangwon's home stadium. It is a 'final match' in which neither team can back down as they maintain a 'balance of 0'.

Since last year, the away points rule for promotion/lower points has been abolished. If the total scores of the first and second games are the same, overtime will begin.
