Baek In-cheol sets a new men's 50m butterfly Asian Games record.

Baek In-cheol (23, Jung-gu Office, Busan) set a new Asian Games record and a new Korean record in the men's 50m butterfly preliminaries at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Baek In-cheol ranked first in Group 5 of the men's 50m butterfly preliminary round at the Hangzhou Asian Games held at the Aquastic Sports Stadium at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center in China on the 28th, and Baek In-cheol also ranked first in the preliminary round.

Baek In-cheol's 23.39 seconds is a new Asian Games record. The previous record was 23.46 seconds set by China's Xi Yang at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, but Baek In-cheol won by 0.07 seconds in nine years.

He also broke the previous Korean record of 23.50 seconds set at the KB Financial Korea Swimming Championships in March.

Baek In-cheol started fast and took first place. Singapore's Teng Chenwei (23.47 seconds), a powerful butterfly swimmer, beat China's Wang Chang-hao (23.54 seconds), who won silver in the men's 100-meter butterfly at the event, to second and third place in Group 5, respectively.
