The New York Post reported on the 4th (Korean time) that the New York Yankees will keep Michael King and Drew Thorpe, who were named as compensation for the Soto trade.

King is a right-handed pitcher born in 1995 and has been in the Major League for five years. He pitched 104 innings in 49 games last season, pitching two-thirds of an inning, and had a 2.75 earned run average.

Also, Thorpe, a right-handed pitcher born in 2000, showed good performance with an ERA of 2.52 in 139 1/3 innings in the top single-A and double-A minor league leagues last season.

Soto is a player who will qualify as a free agent (FA) player after the 2024 season. You can't give him a free pass when you can't guarantee he'll be locked into a long-term contract.

While the New York Yankees faltered, the Toronto Blue Jays quickly emerged as a candidate to recruit Soto. Toronto also emerged as a dark horse in recruiting Shohei Ohtani.
