Technical support issues
Hosselu (33, Real Madrid) couldn't hold back his tears.
Real Madrid beat SSC Napoli 4-2 in the 5th Group C match of the 2023-2024 UEFA Champions League at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain, at 5 a.m. on the 30th.
Real, which had already won all four previous games and confirmed its advance to the round of 16 regardless of the results of the remaining two games, solidified its top spot with 15 points (5 wins). Napoli failed to win a point and remained in second place with seven points (2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses).
Napoli were responsible for the opening goal. In the 9th minute of the first half, Hvicha Kvaratshelia dropped a right-footed cross from the left side as Giovanni Di Lorenzo rushed in, which Giovanni Simeone pushed in to score.
But Real didn't fall apart easily. In the 11th minute of the first half, just after the loss, Hodrigu brought the game to square one with an accurate right-footed shot, and soon after, in the 22nd minute of the first half, Jude Bellingham turned the game 2-1 as he connected David Alaba's pass directly to the header.
Napoli balanced again early in the second half. This time, Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa's shot in the box led to a score.
Real, which was trying to win, tried to score until the end of the game, and as a result, Nico Pas, a prospect born in 2004, gave him a 3-2 lead again.
The scene that touched the hearts of Real fans came in the extra time of the second half. In the 12th minute of the second half, Hosselu, who replaced Dani Cebayos, added a goal. Bellingham, who rushed to the left side of the counterattack, passed toward Hosselu, who was running from the other side, and Hosselu shook the net without making a mistake.
Immediately after scoring, Hosselu ran to the fans and made a gesture of sorry.
There was a reason for Hosselu's actions. Real hired Hoselu on loan in the absence of a suitable front-line striker after Karim Benzema left. Hoselu is from Castilla, Real Madrid, and he also showed tears with his wife at the joining ceremony, as if he was emotional about wearing a Real uniform again after a long trip.
With Vinicius down injured at the start of the season, Hosselu played well. Starting with an assist against Celta Vigo in August, he scored consecutive goals against Getafe and Real Sociedad. He was silent in the match against Atletico Madrid, but scored in all three league games that followed.
But that was the last time. Since then, Hosselu has rarely scored. Hosselu's scoring clock ended Oct. 7.
With the pressure growing, Hoselu, who was substituted in the Champions League, hit eight shots, but only one shot on goal. Hoselu, who would have been mentally driven to a dead end, may have hoped the game would not end.
The game went into extra time and the opportunity finally came. Bellingham, Real's best ace this season, handed over a pass that exquisitely bends with his right foot and outer foot in a counterattack. Hosselu, who had a chance without a defender, tried his ninth shot and finally tasted the score. Hosselu couldn't hold back his tears and Bellingham liked it as if he had scored a goal.
After the game, Bellingham said, "I helped my teammates, my friends and my comrades next to me. In this game, Hosselu missed a few chances, but that's the life of a striker. The most important thing for me was to find Hosselu in the stadium. I was also happy to see his happiness," he said.
