Former FC Barcelona Coach Terry Venables Dies

Terry Venables, a former Tottenham Hotspur player in English professional football, has died after a battle with the disease. He was 80.

Local media, including British public broadcaster BBC, reported on the 26th, "Coach Venables, who led the England national soccer team, Tottenham, and FC Barcelona (Spain), died after a long illness." Venables' family also released a statement saying, "I ended my life peacefully after a long illness."

Venables, who started his career with Chelsea in 1960, played for Tottenham, Queens Park Rangers (QPR) and Crystal Palace (England). He also played two matches as a midfielder for England in 1964.

Benables, who finished his career with Crystal Palace in 1976, began to lead Crystal Palace that very year. He then led Queens Park Rangers, FC Barcelona (Spain), Tottenham Middlesbrough, Leeds United, England national team, and Australia national team.

In particular, Venables, who coached FC Barcelona, Spain's most prestigious club, in 1984, took Barcelona to the championship of the La Liga regular league for the first time in 11 seasons in the 1984-1985 season.

After moving to Tottenham in 1987, he led Tottenham to the championship of the FA Cup in the 1990-1991 season. He then played for England in January 1994 and advanced to the semi-finals of the 1996 European Championship. Venables ended his leadership career after coaching the England national team in 2006-2007.

Gary Lineker, a striker-turned-football program host who worked with Venables for FC Barcelona and Tottenham, told his X (X, old Twitter), "Venables was the best and most innovative coach I've ever met. "I was very lucky to have the joy of running with him," he said.

Gareth Southgate, who was with Venables when he was a member of the England team, told Vivish, "He has an amazing attitude that he knows how to handle everyone from young players to big players. He enjoyed a life full of open-mindedness and enterprising thinking and created a wonderful environment for the England team to flourish their abilities. He was a wonderful person who made others feel special on their own," he recalled.
