Newcastle Casino continues their partnership with the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) to host a blood drive on Saturday, 19 January from noon to 5 p.m.
Newcastle residents are urged to participate in this life-saving initiative benefiting countless Oklahomans. To show appreciation, each successful blood donor will receive a “Saving Lives Never Gets Old” T-shirt as well as $10 in free play. Ryan Sykes, Newcastle Casino general manager, shared his excitement to be hosting the blood drive at Newcastle once again. “We’re honored to continue our partnership with the Oklahoma Blood Institute,” said Sykes. “We urge community members to join us in supporting our partner OBI and recognizing the impact of blood donation to our community.” A single donation can save up to three lives and takes just under an hour to complete. Blood can be donated every 56 days and platelet donations can be made as often as every 7 days, up to 24 times a year. The Oklahoma Blood Institute is especially in need of O-negative donors during winter months, the result of inclement weather leading to a rise in traffic-related accidents. As the universal donor, stores of O-negative are the first to be depleted during emergency situations when the patient’s blood type is often unknown. OBI will have bloodmobiles set up in the casino’s southeast parking lot. Donors must be at least 18 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and present a valid photo ID at the time of donation. |
