Right-handed pitcher Patrick Murphy (28) is expected to enter the Japanese Professional Baseball (NPB).

Japan's Nikkan Sports announced on the 23rd that 'Nippon Ham Fighters are attempting to recruit Murphy.' Murphy will be released as a free agent after this season and is looking for a new team. He turned his attention to Asian baseball and contacted the NPB club, and there was a strong possibility that he would join Nippon Ham. In the United States, a one-year contract with an option for 2025 was expected.

Murphy, who was drafted in the third round by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2013 rookie draft, debuted in the big league in 2020. In August 2021, he transferred to the Washington Nationals on waiver claim and signed with the Minnesota Twins in December of last year. His major league (MLB) career (3 years) records are 35 games, 3 losses, 5 holds, and an earned run average of 4.76. All games he appeared in were from the bullpen. In the minor leagues, he worked as a swingman between starter and bullpen, recording 33 wins, 31 losses, 10 saves, and an ERA of 3.49 over eight years. This season, without appearing in the big league, he played in 42 games (4 starts) in Minnesota's minor league Triple A, with 6 wins, 4 losses, 6 saves, and an ERA of 3.69. He has 10.2 strikeouts per 9 innings.

Nikkan Sports introduced Murphy as a '1m96cm tall right-handed pitcher with a top speed of 159km/h.' According to FanGraphs.com, an MLB records website, Murphy's 2022 pitch distribution is two: a four-seam fastball and a curve. The average speed of a four-seam fastball is 95.7 miles (154 km/h). Although the pitch type is monotonous, he is the type that threatens the batter with force.
