Technical support issues
There seems to be a clear reason why big clubs are after Ivan Toney.
Britain's "The Sun" reported on the 20th that "Tony opened the scoring in a closed friendly match at Brentford."
Tony started his career at Northampton Town and joined Newcastle United in the 2015-16 season, where he made the Premier League (PL) stage, but failed to show any significant performance and moved around on loan to the lower leagues such as Barnsley, Shrewsbury and Wigan Athletic. In the end, Tony, who failed to establish himself at Newcastle, moved to third-division team Peterboro United ahead of the 2018-19 season.
Peter Boro was a divine move. Tony, who was only 22 years old at the time, played in 94 games throughout the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, scoring 49 goals and 15 assists. Brentford of the English Football League Championship (EFL Championship, Division II), who watched Tony's performance, recruited Tony ahead of the 2020-21 season, and played 48 games that year and succeeded in drawing the team's first PL promotion in 74 years with 33 goals and 10 assists.
Tony's performance continued on the PL stage. In the 2021-22 season, he played in 33 league games and scored 12 goals and five assists, making him the top scorer in the team, and in the 2022-23 season, he also played in 34 league games and was ranked third in the PL with 21 goals and five assists, behind Erling Holland (36 goals) and Harry Kane (30 goals). Along with this performance, Tony was also on board with the England national team.
However, an unexpected incident occurred. At the end of last year, Tony was accused of violating a total of 232 betting rules between February 2017 and January 2021. After the investigation, this turned out to be true and was suspended for eight months in May and unable to stand on the ground. Currently, Tony has returned to team training, but he will not be able to play until January next year.
Even after an eight-month hiatus, many big clubs are sending love calls to Tony, who is sure of his talent. Rumors are circulating that Chelsea, which has recruited Nicola Jackson but has not shown a clear scoring ability, Arsenal, who need another scorer other than Gabriel Jesus, and Tottenham Hotspur, who need a perfect replacement for Kane, are preparing to recruit Tony.
Then, he scored as if proving that the big clubs' courtship against him was not futile. The media said, "Brentford had a private friendly with Watford during the A-match break. The match at Brentford's training ground ended in Watford's victory. Some major players, including Benmi, Neil Mupay and Tony, participated in the game. Tony and Mupay scored."
"In addition, David Beckham's son Romeo Beckham was also deployed in the second half to create threatening chances on the right," he added.
