During the month of September, Indonesia topped Singapore's monthly visitor arrival market, beating mainland China, according to Singapore Tourism Authority data. The city-state had 1.13 million visitors that month, down 13.7 percent from 1.31 million in August.

In the first nine months of this year, the number of visitors to Singapore rose 171.0% year-on-year to 10.14 million, according to the September results. This represents about 70.8% of the same period in the pre-pandemic trading year of 2019, when the Singaporean country recorded 14.33 million visitors.

This September, Indonesia supplied 175,600 tourists, while mainland China came in second with 135,680 tourists visiting the city-state.

Chinese tourists stayed longer on average than those from Indonesia, Singapore's southern neighbor, and generally longer than international tourists. The average Chinese was 4.60 days, while Indonesians averaged 2.89 days. The average stay in September for tourists from all international markets was 3.65 days.

Mainland China was the single largest tourist source to arrive in Singapore in the summer of July and August, according to data from the tourism agency.

In terms of the recovery outlook, the total number of visitors from mainland China from January to September was 1.01 million, which was only 35.4 percent in the same period in 2019, when the city-state recorded 2.85 million arrivals from the market.

According to the latest figures from the Tourism Board, in the first nine months of this year, Singapore's largest source markets were Indonesia (1.69 million), China (1.01 million), Malaysia (803,260), Australia (796,230), and India (792,910).

Singapore is home to a casino resort complex called Marina Bay Sands, operated by Resorts World Sentosa operated by Genting Singapore Ltd and a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands Corporation. Sands China Ltd is one of six operating companies in the Macau casino market.
