Nuggets coach: "Keep him out until he's fit"
James Harden in Philadelphia. The conflict between National Basketball Association (NBA) star James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers has continued into the new season. Harden will not play in any away games, including the first game of the 2023-2024 season against the Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 27 (local time), local media including ESPN reported on Nov. 26. Harden has been locked in a nervous battle with the Philadelphia organization since the start of the season after they refused to honor his trade request. "I signed a cheap contract ($33 million-$44.8 million) to strengthen the team ahead of the 2022-2023 season," Harden said, "but the team is not willing to sign me to a long-term contract ahead of the new season." Harden, who has made his displeasure known by demanding a trade, hasn't shown up to practice ahead of the season. Philadelphia head coach Nick Nurse told reporters after a practice in New Jersey on Feb. 25 that he would not play Harden on the road, saying, "He's been out for 10 days, so we need to build him up." Philadelphia has back-to-back games against the Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 27 and the Toronto Raptors on Nov. 29. |
