Marte selects NLCS MVP

Ketel Marte 30, who led the Arizona Diamondbacks to the World Series stage by scoring a hit in every game in the postseason, won the National League Championship Series NLCS.

Arizona won 4-2 in Game 7 of the NLCS against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the 25th . Arizona, which became the NL champion with four wins and three losses in the series, succeeded in advancing to the World Series for the first time in 22 years.

The NLCS MVP announced after Game 7 was Marte. Marte led the lineup with a batting average of 0.387 12 hits in 31 at-bats and three RBIs and one stolen base OPS of 0.987 in seven NLCS games.

In particular, the performance of Game 3 held on the 20th was crucial. Arizona lost both the first and second games in Philadelphia and returned home for Game 3. With the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning when the score was 1-1 tight, Marte hit a thrilling walk-off hit against Craig Kimbrel, the closing pitcher of Living Legend of "Tongsan 417 saves." It was the first time in 22 years that Arizona won the postseason with a walk-off hit since Game 7 of the 2001 World Series.

Marte has been on a new record this fall, producing hits in every single game. Marte hit a decisive double in the top of the seventh inning with Arizona's narrow lead of 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning, connecting a chance to second and third bases with one out, setting the stage for Corbin Carroll to score a sacrifice fly wedge RBI.

Marte, who continued his hit streak with one hit in five at-bats on the 25th, set a new record for hits in 16 consecutive games since his postseason debut. Marte, who had hits in all four postseason games in 2017, also had hits in all 12 postseason games this time. Marte, who increased his consecutive hit record to 16 games, broke the record of 15 consecutive hits in the postseason debut held by Marquis Grissom 1995-1996.

Marte, who has become a hit machine in autumn baseball, is on the verge of breaking another record. If Marte hits in Game 1 of the World Series, he will match Hank Bauer 1956-1958, Derek Jeter 1998-1999, and Manny Ramirez 2003-2004 for the longest consecutive game hit in the postseason.

In addition, Marte, who has 19 hits in 12 games, will surpass the Arizona club's record of the most hits in a single postseason recorded by Steve Finley 17 games and 19 hits when he won the World Series in 2001.
