Technical support issues
Doosan Bears coach Seung-yeop Lee made his ‘postseason (PS) debut’ in his first year as head coach. However, his PS ended the 2023 season without being able to report his first win.
Doosan lost 9-14 to NC Dinos in the professional baseball wild card game held at NC Park in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do on the 19th. Doosan, who finished the regular season in 5th place and entered the wild card match with one loss, left the stage this fall without being able to lead the game until the second game.
Coach Lee Seung-yeop, who came to the press conference room to do an 'interview with the team leader,' said, "This is the end of the season," and "Thanks to our players, we were able to play fall baseball like this. When I took office in October of last year, I set advancement to the PS as my first goal. My first goal." “Although we achieved this, it is very disappointing that fall baseball ended after just one game,” he said.
When I look back on the game that day, there are many disappointing moments. Doosan scored 3 points first, but was unable to run away any further and lost the initiative when starting pitcher Kwak Bin collapsed with a home run.
Manager Lee Seung-yeop said, "NC shortstop Kim Joo-won caught Cho Soo-haeng's strong hit (in the second inning with one out and runners on third base) well, so NC shortstop Kim Joo-won was unable to score an additional point. Kwak Bin was throwing well, but in the bottom of the fourth inning, he hit consecutive home runs, including a loaded home run, and the tide turned. He recalled the game, saying, “We followed well again, but we lacked the will to do so.”
If we look a little further back in time, it is unfortunate that they fell behind in the battle for third place at the end of the regular season and that the lack of firepower led to a burden on the bullpen.
Manager Lee Seung-yeop recalled, "We showed weaknesses in the batting line (such as staying in 8th place in scoring in the regular season). As our hitting numbers dropped, the pitchers also had a difficult season."
Coach Lee Seung-yeop, who was loved and called the 'national hitter' during his active career, started his career as the head coach of Doosan this year. Coach Lee laid down his authority and made eye contact with his players at the same level. Even at the sad end of the season, Coach Lee Seung-yeop smiled as he recalled his time with his players.
Coach Lee recalled, "He had a lot of fun this year thanks to the players. He spent the season without making much of an impression. The position as coach was very difficult, but he really enjoyed his time with the players."
Doosan players also remember coach Lee Seung-yeop as “a tremendous star, but also a leader who understood the feelings of underperforming players.”
Of course, Director Seung-yeop Lee also knows very well that being a ‘good person’ does not lead to being a ‘good director.’ Coach Lee plans to work harder to produce ‘good grades’, which is the condition for being a ‘successful leader’.
Coach Lee Seung-yeop said, "I gained confidence that I can go even higher next year," and pledged, "I had many shortcomings this season. I will make up for them and go even higher next year."
