Park Hye-jung and Son Young-hee ranked first and second

Post Jang Mi-ran" Park Hye-jung (20, Goyang City Hall) became the champion of the women's heaviest weight class (87kg or more) at the Asian Games.

Park Hye-jung won the women's 87kg or more weightlifting competition at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held at Xiaoshan Sports Center in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China on the 7th, lifting 125kg in impression, 169kg in dragon image, and a total of 294kg.

It is the first time in 13 years that a Korean athlete has won the weightlifting event at the Asian Games since Jang Mi-ran (currently the Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism), who won the gold medal in the women's heaviest class (over 75kg at the time) at the 2010 Guangzhou Games.

With Lee Won-won (23, China), the strongest player in the weight class, absent due to injury, Park Hye-jung emerged as a strong candidate for the championship and lifted the heaviest barbell as expected.

Son Young-hee (30, Busan Sports Council), who won the silver medal at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games, also finished second with 124kg in raise and 159kg in clean water, and 283kg in total, earning silver for the second consecutive time.

It is the first time in the women's division that a Korean weightlifter has reached the podium at the Asian Games in 1st and 2nd place, and it is the first time in 33 years that men's 90kg class Kim Byung-chan (gold medal), Lee Hyung-geun (silver medal), men's 110kg class Kim Tae-hyun (gold medal) and Jeon Sang-seok (silver medal) at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing.

The competition for the women's heaviest title was cemented early by a two-way race between Park Hye-jung and Son Young-hee. Park Hye-jung had a great match as the world championship champion in 2023 and Son Young-hee as the world championship champion in 2021.

When Son Young-hee succeeded in the first 115kg, the second 120kg, and the third 124kg, Park Hye-jung also edged ahead with a little heavy weight of 118kg, 123kg and 125kg.

After Duangak Sorn Chaidi (26, Thailand) finished third with a total of 275kg (120kg in impressions and 155kg in cleanliness), the match between Park Hye-jung and Son Young-hee became fiercer. Son Young-hee succeeded in the first 155kg and the second 159kg in Yongsang to pressure Park Hye-jung. However, Park Hye-jung calmly lifted 157kg and 160kg.

Son Young-hee applied for 169kg, which is the same as the Korean record for Yongsang she holds in the last 3rd round. He made a winning move, but unfortunately, he dropped Babel back.
