After winning gold in the women's doubles table tennis event at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, Korean Air's Shin Yubin (Piyak Yi) will not be returning home, but will be traveling straight to the next competition.
Partnered with Jeon Jeon-hee (Mirae Asset Securities), the duo defeated North Korea's Cha Sooyoung and Park Soo-kyong in the women's table tennis doubles final with a match score of 4-1 (11-6 11-4 10-12 12-10 11-3) at the Gungsu Canal Sports Park Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China, on February 2.
With the victory, Shin Yubin-Jeon Hee became the first South Korean pair to win a gold medal in women's doubles in 21 years since Seok Eun-mi and Lee Eun-shil at the 2002 Busan Asian Games.
While many fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the gold medal for the Chinese Taipei table tennis team after the Asian Games, Shin Yubin and other key players are not returning home.
Instead, they will head straight to Yunzhou, China, to compete in the World Table Tennis Federation (WTT) Contender.
While some players, such as Seo Hyo-won (Korea Horse Society), will return home eight days after the Yunzhou event, Shin Yubin and Jeon Jeon-hee will return home on the 24th after competing in back-to-back events in Muscat, Oman, from August 8-14 and Antalya, Turkey, from August 16-22.
