Kim Hyo-joo (Lotte) seized a golden opportunity to succeed in the two rabbit hunts: her first major championship in 9 years and a career prize of over $9 million.
Kim Hyo-joo played the 3rd round of the 3rd day of the AIG Women’s Open, the last major tournament of the LPGA Tour season held at Walton Heath GC (par 72) in Surrey, England on the 13th (Korean time). He shot a 4-under-par 68. Kim Hyo-joo, who recorded an interim total of 8 under par and 208 strokes, was tied for third place, one stroke behind the lead. The top spot on the leaderboard was jointly occupied by Lilia Boo (USA) and Charlie Hull (UK), who recorded 9 under par 207 strokes side by side. Kim Hyo-joo, who won five LPGA Tour titles, has never won a major tournament since winning the Evian Championship in 2014 when she participated as a non-member. Kim Hyo-joo, who is trying to win six games in a year and four months since the Lotte Championship in April last year, will personally win her second major tournament if she succeeds in reaching the top of the tournament. It is the sixth time for a South Korean player to win. The winners of this tournament (including the previous British Open) are Pak Se-ri (2001), Jang Jung (2005), Shin Ji-ae (2008, 2012), Park In-bee (2015), and Kim In-kyung (2017). On top of that, the total prize money increased to $9.242,359 (about 12.31 billion won) by receiving $1.35 million in prize money. The amount of individual prize money in a single season was 2,639,460 dollars (about 3.516 billion won), a new record. Kim Hyo-joo's personal best prize money in a single season was $1,533,497 last year. Considering the recent shots, there is a high possibility of a come-from-behind victory. Kim Hyo-joo finished her warm-up by finishing second at the Free Group Scotland Women's Open just before the entrance examination. What is encouraging is that the number of putts, which soared to 30 in the first and second rounds, has decreased to 27 on the day, and the putt feeling is improving. Kim Hyo-joo said, "The strongest wind blew this week, and I think it ended well with a good score due to the short game and good putting. "I hope this feeling comes true tomorrow," he said, expressing satisfaction. He went on to say, "I hope there will be more opportunities tomorrow than today, not only today, but also reading the wind." |
