The only amateur to participate in the Asian Games

Masan Yongmago right-hander Jang Hyun-suk, who is challenging the Major League Baseball (MLB), signed a contract with the LA Dodgers.

Rico Sports Agency, which represents Jang Hyun-seok's contract, announced on the 9th that Jang Hyun-seok signed a $900,000 (about 1.188 billion won) contract with the Dodgers. Jang Hyun-seok said through Rico Sports Agency, "It is an honor to join a prestigious club called the Dodgers," adding, "I will work hard and become a player who develops." Jang Hyun-seok will hold a press conference to join the Dodgers at the Dragon City Hotel in Seoul at 2 p.m. on the 14th. An official from the Dodgers' scout team will be present at the press conference to explain the background of the recruitment.

The Dodgers, based in Los Angeles, California, where the most Koreans live in the U.S., are famous for their big league debuts of "Korean Express" Park Chan-ho and "Korean Monster" Ryu Hyun-jin (currently Toronto Blue Jays).

Jang Hyun-seok, one of the biggest pitchers in the professional baseball rookie draft market this year, declared on the 1st that he would challenge MLB instead of the KBO League. Lee Ye-rang, CEO of Rico Sports Agency, said, "Up to 10 teams showed interest in signing contracts with Jang Hyun-seok, and some teams offered more than $1 million in down payment," adding, "At the end, it was narrowed down to four teams."

Jang Hyun-suk was the only amateur player to be selected for the national baseball team at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
