Angels Escaped 7 Consecutive Losses

Ohtani, Multi-base Performance...Angels Escaped 7 Consecutive Losses

One hit, one RBI, one walk, and one steal in four at-bats

Los Angeles Angels' Shohei Ohtani (29) rescued his team from a seven-game losing streak.

Otani started as the second designated hitter in the 2023 Major League Baseball game against the San Francisco Giants at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, on the 9th  and played one hit, one RBI, and one stolen base in four at-bats.

He failed to hit a home run in five games, but increased his hit streak to three games in a row. Ohtani's batting average this season is 0.307 with 40 home runs, 83 RBIs and 16 steals in 113 games, with an OPS (on-base percentage + slugging percentage) of 1.078.

He didn't miss the opportunity to come to his first at-bat. With no outs and runners on second base in the first inning, Otani hit a timely hit against San Francisco starter Scott Alexander. Later, Brandon Drury and Mike Mustakus hit the home base.

In the second inning, he had a chance with one out and a runner on second base, but he only hit a fly ball to the center field, and in the fifth inning, he became the leadoff hitter and stayed on a fly ball to the right field.

Otani appeared as the leadoff hitter in the seventh inning and was grounded out to shortstop, but completed a multi-base hit in his last at-bat. In the eighth inning, he walked out to a deliberate walk with two outs. Otani succeeded in stealing second base and was in the scoring position, but follow-up hitter Drury stepped down with a ground ball to second base.

The Angels won 7-5 with Otani's performance and Lucas Giolito's three runs in six innings. The Angels (57 wins and 58 losses), who finally broke the seven-game losing streak, remained in fourth place in the American League West. The game is seven games away from the third-place Toronto Blue Jays.
