Wheelchair DanceSport

  Wheelchair couple dances are for two wheelchair users or one wheelchair user with a "standing" partner and include standard dances such as waltz, tango, vienna waltz, slow foxtrot and quickstep, and Latin American dances such as samba, chacha, lumba, pasodob, and jive. There is also a large dance for four, six, and eight dancers.


History
  Wheelchair dancing was originally started in Sweden in 1968 for recreational or rehabilitation purposes, and the first competition was held in 1975. The first international competition was also held in Sweden in 1977. Several regional and international competitions followed, and in 1998, the first world championships were held in Japan. Since 1998, wheelchair dance sports are part of the paralympic program, but have been operated by the International Paralympic Committee for Wheelchair Dance Sports (IPWDSC). The sport incorporates the rules of the World Dance Sports Federation (WDSF)

  Wheelchair dancers also often move out of their chairs. By being lifted by standing dancers or working on the floor. Many dancers have extremely customized wheelchairs designed to move more easily to dance.


How it works
  DanceSport, once called competitive ballroom dance, has been renamed to suit its modern image as a demanding sport. Features consist of fitness, agility, coordination, fitness, high levels of fitness, training, teamwork, elegance, style, and musical interpretation.

  Regular rule judges should give scores ranging from 0 to 10 on each single judge's criteria, such as musicality, choreography practice, mobility, and presentation. 0-4 points below average, 5-6 points above average, 7-8 points above average, 9-10 points outstanding. The total possible score for solo is 40 points per referee.
