Bogata Hotel Casino & Spa became the first Atlantic City casino to allow legal sports betting under New Jersey's new sports betting rules. The historic bet came just three days after New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill unanimously passed by the state legislature, creating a regulatory environment for licensed casinos to keep legal sports books.
"This is a proud day for Bogotá and a proud day for New Jersey," says Marcus Glover, President and Chief Operating Officer of Bogotá Hotel Casino and Spa. "Today marks a whole new era for New Jersey sports entertainment. What we look forward to is bringing new excitement, excitement, and economic benefits to our community. Celebrating our first 15 years in the Atlantic City, Bogotá is proud to list the first of many innovative achievements we have made today." The honor of making his first sports bet at the Atlantic City Casino went to Hall of Fame basketball legend Julius Erving. Dr. J, a talented star of the Philadelphia 76ers and a longtime guest of Bogata, received an invitation from the resort to make a historic bet. The Philadelphia NBA legend maintained his loyalty to his team's hometown, but switched from basketball to soccer by making his first bet at Bogata. "I bet the Eagles will repeat themselves," Irving said, lifting his ticket after betting $5 on Philadelphia NFL teams to win the Pro Football Championship. At the time of the bet, the Borgata betting line, which would see the Eagles reborn as champions, was 8-1. In the next betting window, Senator Steve Sweeney, who was instrumental in passing New Jersey's sports betting bill with Dr. Jay, bet $200 on the Green Bay Packers to win professional football. Dr. J asked Sweeney about the bet while proudly displaying the first ticket for customers and media gathered for the event. Dr. J, who learned that Sweeney had placed a competitive bet on the Packers, said, "Then go down." Borgata, the only Atlantic City casino with an existing racing book, was uniquely quick to jump into business. The Borgata Race Book has been renamed Borgata Race & Sports Book and will remain in its original location. Important additional plans to complement the existing Bogota Race & Sportsbook facility are in the final stages of the design. Details and timelines of these improvements will be announced in the coming weeks. As a member of MGM Resorts International, Bogata brings a wealth of sportsbook experience to its new operations. MGM Resorts International has more than 25 years of experience operating sportswear in Nevada, producing over 4 million sportswear annually with handles worth over $1 billion annually. Sports and sports betting are key entertainment experiences that drive continued consumer engagement. "As we celebrate our 15th anniversary as a leader and innovator in the Atlantic City market, we are committed to providing the best sportsbook experience for our customers to enjoy. After decades of successful sportsbook operations in Nevada and building trust with our customers and regulators, Bogota and MGM Resorts are well positioned as leaders in sports betting," says Glover. Fifteen years after its massive opening, Bogata Hotel Casino & Spa continues to expand its bar in Atlantic City, offering customers entertainment, exclusive culinary experiences, as well as unique casino promotions and special events. Glover added, "Since entering the market in 2003, Bogota has made it our mission to grow and invest in our real estate and products, team members and guests, and we provide a special experience for everyone who opens our doors." |
