The Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) will attach patch 44 to the uniforms of players in the 2024-2025 season.

The Los Angeles Lakers said on the 11th, "We decided to attach the 44th patch of Jerry West's uniform number during his active career, which passed away in June this year, on the left shoulder of the players, and play a regular league game in the 2024-2025 season."

West, who played only for the Los Angeles Lakers from 1960 to 1974, led the team to victory in the 1971-1972 season, and he was the runner-up in 1969, but he was impressive enough to become the MVP of the championship game.

It is also known that the NBA logo was modeled after West's game.

West, considered the league's best shooting guard, was a 14-time All-Star and averaged 27 points.

He is the father of Johnny West, husband of Michelle Wie (U.S.), a Korean golfer.

The Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to hold a memorial service for West on Oct. 23 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the opener of the 2024-2025 season, at home.
