Macau 1H yield per slot machine 27 pc higher than in first half

In the first six months of the year, output per slot machine in the Macau market was up 26.8% from the same period in 2019, the year of trading just before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to official statistics.

Macau's gross game sales (GGR) of slot machines reached about 6.43 billion MOPs ($799.36 million) in the first six months of the year, representing 5.7% of the total MOPs of $113.75 billion recorded during the period, according to data from Macau Casino Regulators.

The Macau market had a total of 12,000 slot machines by the end of June this year, up from 17,638 in the same period in 2019.

A cross-reference of data from gaming regulators showed that each slot machine in Macau averaged about 535,750 MOPs in the first half of this year. The figure represents a 26.2% year-over-year increase and 26.8% higher than the MOP422,440 per unit in the first half of 2019.

In August 2022, the Macau government announced the total number of game tables and game consoles available to casino concession companies in Macau at once, and a minimum annual casino GGR target that can be generated from each game table and each game console.

Both parameters went into effect on Jan. 1, 2023, with a new 10-year gaming concession. Under the dispatch of the relevant chief executive, the maximum number of all game concession companies in Macau can operate a total of 6,000 game tables is 6,000. A maximum of 12,000 consoles are allowed in the Macau market at a time.

According to the CEO dispatch, the minimum limit on the total annual revenue generated by each game table is 7 million MOPs, and the total annual revenue for each game console is 3 million MOPs.
