Jeju residents in Korea think casinos should be better regulated

Foreign casinos in Korea don't get along well with many local residents. According to a recent report, about half of Jeju residents think that the property has led to a sharp increase in crime. According to the residents, stricter regulations are needed.

The survey was conducted by representatives of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and asked the opinions of 1,000 local adults. As many as 49.9 percent said they thought the property led to a surge in criminal activity in the area. On the other hand, 14.2 percent disagreed with the statement. The rest were neutral and did not have strong opinions on the matter.

The survey also asked islanders about their feelings about the casino's environmental impact. More than half (52%) of the respondents said that foreigner-only casinos on the island have a negative impact, pollute the environment, and increase traffic problems. Meanwhile, 13.7% disagreed with the statement.

In addition, 55.1 percent agreed that casinos had a detrimental effect on local youth and the education sector as a whole. However, 13.7 percent do not believe in the connection between the education system and casino properties.
