Released with a warning and no fine Australian hockey player Tom Craig (29), who was arrested by local police on suspicion of purchasing drugs, has been released. The BBC reported on the 8th (Korean time), “Australian hockey player Craig apologized after being released from detention in Paris after being arrested on suspicion of purchasing cocaine.” After leaving the police station, Craig said, “I would like to apologize for what happened in the past 24 hours. I made a terrible mistake,” and “I take full responsibility for my actions.” He then apologized, saying, “My actions did not reflect the values of my family, my teammates, my friends, my sport, or the Australian Olympic team. I have embarrassed you all. I am truly sorry.” Craig won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and has competed in over 100 games for Australia. However, he caused great disappointment and shock at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Australia lost 0-2 to the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of this competition held on the 4th. Afterwards, he left the Olympic Village and was arrested for buying 1 gram of cocaine from a 17-year-old drug dealer he met in downtown Paris. According to media reports, Craig received only a warning and was not fined. |
