Paris prosecutors open investigation into 'anti-Semitic crimes'

Prosecutors in Paris, France, have begun investigating possible crimes over "anti-Semitic acts" at the Olympic men's soccer stadium.

The BBC, a British public broadcaster, said on the 31st (Korean time) that the Paris Olympic Organizing Committee had sued the police for hanging a banner with a political message on the football field, and the Paris prosecution has opened an investigation into the possibility of a crime.

"Some fans make anti-Semitic gestures, and during the game there were banners and slogans referencing the war in Gaza," the outlet quoted a spokesman for the Paris prosecutor's office as saying.

At the Parc des Princes stands in Paris, France, where the second Group D match between Israel and Paraguay took place on the 28th, some spectators waved Palestinian flags and hung enemy banners calling them the "Genocide Olympics."

Earlier on the 25th, a crowd wearing a T-shirt reading "Freedom to Palestine" stood out at the stadium of the first group match between Israel and Mali, and booed when the Israeli national anthem was played.

Israeli fans protesting the protest chanted "Free the hostages" and responded.

Eventually, the organizing committee of the Paris Olympics sued the crowd for political action at the stadium after the Israel-Paraguay match.

"We strongly condemn these acts," said a spokesman for the Paris Olympic Committee. "We will do our best to fight against all forms of discrimination that are contrary to the values of the Olympics and Paralympics. Let me remind everyone that the Olympics is a time of harmony and tolerance."

Prosecutors in Paris said they were also investigating the death threats received by three Israeli athletes competing in the Olympics.
